Guest Recital

 Dr. Buckner, Tim Schodowski, Mr. Laubach after the recital

Tim Schodowski, director of bands at Quitman (TX), and trumpet professor at Tyler Junior College, will present a guest recital on Tuesday, March 12, at 7:30 pm.  At 12:30 pm he will talk to the Henderson trumpet students about ways for band directors to stay motivated to find time to practice and perform.

Concerto for Trumpet - Robert Planel

Tim Schodowski is a native of Malvern, Arkansas. He holds a Bachelor in Music Education degree from Henderson State University, a Master in Music Education degree from Texas A&M University Commerce and a Master in Educational Administration degree from the University of Texas at Tyler. Tim is currently the director of bands for the Quitman Independent School District and has a total of 17 years in public education. He also serves as an adjunct music professor at Tyler Junior College.

 Tim is also an active musician and has performed with the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, Arkansas Brass, Rose City Brass Quintet, Fort Worth Ballet, East Texas Jazz Orchestra, South Arkansas Symphony, Texarkana Symphony Orchestra, Northeast Texas Symphony Orchestra, Tyler Big Band, Texarkana Jazz Orchestra and several Jazz combos.

Michael Hoover Recital

Michael performed his senior recital on November 6, 2012, playing both trumpet and piano.  (See his web page for specifics and photos.)

On November 13, 2012, he was featured soloist with the Henderson Brass Band on Concert Etude by Alexander Goedicke.

Best Section

The Henderson trumpets just won the coveted title of best section of 2012!  The flags, who are always great, received the same title, sparing the band directors the trauma of choosing between the two.

The trumpet section has been working hard for several years to recapture the title -- it was worth the struggle!

Orville Kelley, 1955-1958

Orville Kelley, director of bands and trumpet professor at Henderson State University from 1955-1958 passed away on June 2, 2012.  A brief bio is at this link.  Among his students was Dr. Bill Clark, professor emeritus at the University of New Mexico.
